Workshop Description: 

Aligned with McREL's renowned Classroom Instruction That Works strategies and framework, this 1-day workshop is an intensive learning and planning session for classroom teachers, instructional coaches, teacher mentors, principals and assistant principals, and district/county professional development leaders. 

 Participants will learn:

  • Nine categories of instructional strategies that research shows have the strongest connections to higher levels of student learning and success.
  • Specific instructional strategies, activities, and tools that create a classroom environment for learning that allows students to flourish.
  • Specific instructional strategies, activities, and tools that help students develop understanding of new content and concepts.
  • Specific instructional strategies, activities, and tools that help students extend and apply their knowledge to other situations and challenges.
  • Tech tools teachers can use that promote engaging and meaningful learning.

Workshop Presenter:                     

Cheryl Abla, MA, believes deeply in all students' capacity to achieve at high levels and is passionate about helping educators use their full potential to make a positive impact on students.  At McREL International, Cheryl trains and coaches K-12 teachers and school leaders on effective instructional strategies, problem-based learning, classroom technology, teacher coaching, English-language-learner supports, and creating engaging school cultures and climates.  Prior to joining McREL, she taught grades 1-12 for over twenty years; served as a national facilitator for the FACES, Inc. charter education program; and was the director of both a Parents as Teachers district program and a Migrant Education Even Start district program.  Drawing on her extensive and diverse classroom experience, she has presented at educational conferences around the United States and the Pacific.  She has authored several articles for McREL's "Changing Schools Magazine" and is a co-author of "Tools for Classroom Instruction that Works".
