President's Message

President Katherine Castleberry

Across California, educators are doing extraordinary work in a time of extraordinary change. Every day, in classrooms and communities, we see new possibilities emerging - new ways of connecting with students, new approaches to learning, and new understandings of what it means to lead. This is a moment that asks us not only to respond to change, but to imagine what comes next. CATLL exists for that kind of imagining.

Our evolution into the California Association of Teaching, Leading, and Learning reflects a belief that the future of education must be built on both innovation and humanity. We are creating a community where educators can explore ideas, challenge assumptions, and design learning experiences that honor the brilliance and diversity of California’s students.

At the heart of this work are values that guide us: equity, inclusion, belonging, and meaningful relationships. These are not abstract concepts — they are daily commitments. They shape how we show up for students, how we support one another, and how we build systems that allow every learner and every educator to thrive. When we lead with these values, we create learning environments where curiosity is encouraged, identities are affirmed, and every person feels seen and valued.

CATLL is dedicated to nurturing that kind of environment. Through statewide networks, personalized professional learning, and thoughtful advocacy, we help educators make sense of emerging trends while staying rooted in what matters most: the humanity of teaching and learning. We believe that when educators feel supported, connected, and empowered, they create classrooms where students experience true belonging.

What makes CATLL special is our people — educators who bring courage, creativity, and deep care to their work. It is the collective wisdom of this community that fuels our mission and shapes our vision for the future.

As President, I am inspired by the path we are walking together. This is a time for imagination, for collaboration, and for courageous leadership. It is a time to reimagine what teaching, leading, and learning can be — not just for today’s students, but for the generations who will follow.

I invite you to join us in shaping that future. Together, we can build an educational landscape rooted in equity, enriched by inclusion, strengthened by belonging, and defined by a spirit of deep, meaningful relationships.
