President's Message |
President Dr. Sue Kaiser As educators in California, we are navigating a period of profound change—change in our classrooms, our communities, and the systems that shape teaching and leadership. Formerly known as California ASCD, and previously an affiliate of ASCD, our organization has evolved to become CATLL—reflecting a renewed focus on Teaching, Learning, and Leadership in California. CATLL offers tremendous resources to educators across the state. Whether you are a new teacher or leader, or a veteran educator with years of experience, membership provides meaningful opportunities for statewide and national networking, professional growth, and collaboration. Members have access to a monthly Curriculum Feed designed to keep you informed about current workshops, legislative actions, instructional best practices, and emerging educational issues and trends. CATLL also facilitates hot-topic discussions and connects members to reliable, high-quality resources to support learning, teaching, and leading. The world is changing rapidly, and these shifts are reflected in funding structures, legislation, and credentialing requirements for educators. At the same time, societal issues increasingly surface in our classrooms and schools. Educators are called upon to better understand and support students and families who are new to our schools, who have experienced trauma or poverty, or who live in non-traditional family structures, including foster care and group homes. The Califonria Association of Teaching Leading and Learning (CATLL) is grounded in a commitment to educating the whole child and supporting the whole educator, recognizing that sustained professional learning and connection are essential to meeting the evolving needs of the students we serve. Addressing challenges and solving problems are central to the work of educators. We continually seek ways to refine our practice, navigate change, and increase both efficacy and efficiency. CATLL partners with schools, districts, and county offices of education to identify problems of practice and to design strategic, responsive actions that address real-world challenges. CATLL has pioneered a personalized approach to professional learning that places educators’ interests, needs, and pedagogical questions at the center. Our work begins with a conversation. From there, we collaborate with educational partners to design professional learning experiences aligned to school and district priorities, including workshops, ongoing cadre work, and blended in-person and online learning opportunities. CATLL is a vibrant, agile organization offering robust resources, dynamic networking opportunities, and innovative professional learning structures. Our members benefit from the expertise of respected local and national educators who share a deep commitment to teaching and learning, supporting California educators, and advocating for adequate funding and meaningful support for students, teachers, and leaders across the state. As President of CATLL, I am proud of our legacy and our evolution. We honor where we have been while continuing to grow in response to the needs of California’s educators and students. CATLL looks forward to welcoming you into our community. Sue Kaiser, Ed.D. President
