CASCD Legislative Platform

Educator Leadership and Support

California ASCD recognizes the importance of making investments in time and resources to support educators from induction to various teacher and leader positions.

We believe students’ academic success is attained when teachers and leaders have access to quality pre-service, induction, and personalized professional development that is strength-based and needs-aligned.

We recognize the need to attract and recruit effective educators and leaders and find ways to support and retain them. We recognize the value of multiple routes for obtaining educator credentials as long as they ensure high standards of practice.

We encourage collaboration between districts and higher education on preparation programs that provide meaningful and authentic learning opportunities.

Ensuring that All Students are College, Career and Citizenship Ready

California ASCD supports the “California Way” of improving our schools through a systems approach that emphasizes capacity building, local control and accountability, and confidence in the integrity of California’s educators and their desire to excel.

California ASCD also recognizes the importance of a comprehensive curriculum that includes visual and performing arts, physical education, career education, and technology.

California ASCD supports trans-disciplinary learning, teaching, and leadership to equip students with 21st century skills and prepare them for post-graduation success.

Advocating for the Whole Child

California ASCD supports efforts that give students in pre-K through adult education the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and mental health supports needed to learn.

California ASCD recognizes that a comprehensive approach to learning, informed by both qualitative and quantitative data, will ensure that students leave school knowledgeable, healthy, motivated, challenged, civic-minded, engaged in the arts and physical education, and prepared for work and economic self-sufficiency in an increasingly complex world.
