  • Disseminating timely information about exemplary curriculum, instruction, and leadership activities.
  • Delivering quality professional development experiences designed to improve achievement for the Whole Child, PK-Adult.
  • Collaborating with state associations and professional organizations to amplify our professional voice with key state decision makers to advance school improvement efforts.

Developing Effective Teachers and Leaders

California ASCD recognizes the critical importance of developing effective teachers and leaders for every school and district in the state.  Teachers and administrators, along with families, policymakers, and communities have an obligation to ensure engaging learning opportunities that meet the needs of all students.  We recognize academic success is attained when teachers and leaders have access to quality pre-service, induction, and professional development.

Any evaluation of an educator's effectiveness must be based on multiple criteria and should be used for professional learning and ongoing professional growth.

Ensuring that All Students are College, Career and Citizenship Ready

California ASCD supports the implementation and sustainability of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC).

California ASCD also recognizes the importance of a balanced curriculum that includes visual and performing arts, physical education, career education, technology, and STEM education and resources.

California ASCD supports learning, teaching, and leadership which adequately prepare students with 21st century skills for post-graduation success.

As educators in the 21st century, we are charged with educating students to be prepared for work and/or higher education so they can be successful in a complex, interconnected world.  This responsibility requires schools prepare students for technological, cultural, and economic changes.

Advocating for the Whole Child

California ASCD supports efforts that give students the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and health supports needed to learn.  A comprehensive approach to learning recognizes that students who are knowledgeable, healthy, motivated, civically inspired, engaged in the arts, prepared for the work and economic self-sufficiency, are ready for the world beyond their own borders.
