OH! THE MATH THEY NEED TO KNOW!

Wednesday, November 17, 2021

1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (PT)

Description:

Oh the Math...we know student success in mathematics starts right when our Pre-K's and K's first enter school.  Attitudes toward math including curiosity, develop quickly and are shaped by the teachers that plan and teach the necessary concepts that lay the foundation for elementary math.  A year of interrupted learning has meant that many of our young students have missed a whole year of play and learning math.

Come prepared to play author Jane Felling's favorite games, and learn strategies and best practices for the following concepts:

  • Subitizing, counting, comparing numbers
  • Number concepts including odd/even doubles, make 5, make 10
  • Number line count on and back
  • Simple graphs

Whole movement activities tied to the math, math talks, music integration that provide "brain breaks" will all be shared throughout the session.  Activities are suitable for whole class or center/partner based instruction.  Handouts will include favorite games, concept skill checklists for assessment, and ideas that can be implemented right away.

All Participants need to bring a deck of cards, 8 regular dice and a set of Dominoes!

Registration:

$99 per person/CASCD member

$149 per person/Non-member

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
