With many changes being made or proposed in Washington, we face considerable uncertainty as to future funding for education, changes in immigration policies, and other issues.  Emotions run high and, if you're like me, you're receiving daily requests to sign petitions, contact your elected representatives, and participate in other advocacy efforts.

Today, I came across some excellent advice in a blog post from Spokes, the non-profit resource center that serves San Luis Obispo County.  Here is a summary of the key points.

  1. Re-frame the conversation.
  2. Remember that all 502(c)3 organizations, like CASCD, are required to remain non-partisan at all times.
  3. Don't make decisions out of fear.
  4. Avoid responding to attacks defensively.
