How do you know if state standards are being delivered with high levels of rigor and that they are consistent with the instructional shifts inherent in the standards? Participants will examine three tools for monitoring and reflecting on the implementation of standards in classrooms and in curricular units. These tools can be used by district and building administrators, as well as teachers, to examine how current instructional practice supports learning for ALL students in achieving the California Standards. In addition to these classroom level tools, a needs assessment instrument for examining standards implementation from a systems perspective will also be shared.
- Understand the instructional shifts and be able to recognize them in practice
- Examine documents for reviewing how the shifts are being implemented in classrooms
- Engage in discussions around how to deepen and sharpen implementation of the shifts and the standards
- Identify areas of strength and potential growth in supporting the successful implementation of the standards
